Chap 6: Let's form Equations!

When given a word problem with unknowns, we can "convert" the words into mathematical equations to find out the unknowns.

For example
Given a number exceeds another by 4 and their sum is 32.
Express the statement as an equation.

Let the smaller number be y. The other number would be y + 4.
Equation: y + (y + 4) =  32

If we proceed to solve it further, we'll get 2y + 4 = 32
2y = 28, which resulted y = 14.
Hence the two numbers are 14 and 18.
