### Chap 16: Data Handling - How are these graphs used in real world situation

With reference to the 4 types of graphs posted by the groups, comment the use of each type of graph. Give an example on how it is used.

E.g. The bar chart shows the sales of the different flavours of a certain brand of instant noodles in a local supermarket in a week, therefore allowing the production manager to decide which flavour to increase in their production.

Label the parts clearly.
(a) Pictogram
(b) Bar Chart
(c) Pie Chart
(d) Line Graph

1. Pictograms are used for teaching lower primary students about graphs.
Bar charts are used for showing the amount of sales in a month.
Pie chart are used for showing the occupations of the population.
Line graph are used for measuring a companies growth.

2. Pictogram: In supermarket, pictogram is used to represent the fruits present on a certain day.

Bar Chart: In a business company, bar charts are used to represent the sales made by a company or the number of sale products sold.

Pie Chart: It is normally used to represent different things as part of overall percentage (100%) to see and compare.

Line Graph: It is mostly used for rise and fall of budget interests and revenues. Also, it can be used for the rate of popularity about something (sometimes movies)

3. Pictogram:
Used to teach people who cannot visualise data
Bar Chart:
Used to compare different quantities like sales
Line Chart:
Used to monitor progress over time intervals like stocks
Pie Chart:
Used to visualise quantitities out of a whole like time spent on activities.

5. Bar graphs are used to show the different types of marks attained by students.

Pie charts are used to show the population of different races in Singapore.

Line graph are used for showing the time and the speed an object travels.

Pictograms are used for teaching small children about graphs.

6. Pictograms are used for teaching lower primary students about graphs.
Bar charts are used for showing the amount of sales in a month.
Pie chart are used for showing the occupations of the population.
Line graph are used for measuring a companies growth.

7. pictograms can be used to show how many student go to the arcade on different days

Bar chart can be used to see which day a company had sales.

pie chart can be used to show the food that students prefer

line graph can be used to show the change in a heigt of a plant over time

8. Pictograms is the simplest and most easy and clear one for young children to use
Bar chart is to show the sales or any other growth
Pie chart are used when they need to find out the majority or to organize all the items.
Line Graph to see the companies growth or to get an overview of how someone has progressed

9. Pictogram is used to can be use to show the number of people in each CCA.
Bar charts can be used to show how many children like each colour.
Pie Chart can show how a child spends his/her time (in hours)
Line Graphs can be used to show the average attendance of a student ( and compared to the average of the school[at the same time])

10. Pictograms are for those who are weak in graphs and chart.
Bar graphs is easy to understand and many values can use bar graphs to show.
Pie chart is to show ratio and percentage.
Line graph shows a trend with time

11. Pictogram: To be used for teaching kindergarden and lower primary students maths, graph, with simple pictures easy for them to understand.

Bar chart: This is used for finding population of a certain area or the amount of things.

Pie chart: This is used for representing percentage for collecting data from a large group of people.

Line graph: This is used for stocks where the number keeps rising and falling.

12. Pictograms are used to represent different data that is in pictures.
Bar Graphs are used to compare differences in things like sales
Pie Charts are used to show parts of a whole
Line Charts are used to compare data like profits and income

13. Bar Graphs are used to compare values easily like the marks of students in an exam.

Pie Charts are used to show the percentage of stuff normally about sales.

Line graph are for measuring how much something grows. Can be a plant.

Pictograms are for lower primary students that cannot understand more complicated graphs.

14. (a)Pictogram:Used to show data in a very simple ans clear way.
(b)Bar Chart: used to compare with each other
(c)Pie Chart: Used to show proportions clearly
(d)Line Graph: used to show rises and falls clearly(eg. Market sales)

15. Bar Graph are used to scales
Pictogram are for lower primary students
Line graph are used for measuring a companies growth.
Pie graphs are for percentage

16. a) It is used to show data in a simple way.
b) It is used to compare data.
c) Used to show proportions
d) Used to show the growing or dropping rates of something. (Stock markets.)

17. 1. Pictograms can be use for how the number of students who report to a particular school.
2. Bar chart can be use to count the number of students in each house.
3. Piechart can be use for comparing how things are proportional to each other.
4. Line Graph can be used to show the amount of average rainfall in a year.

18. a) Bar graphs are used for comparison in value.
b) Pictograms are used to show data simply and to compress big values.
c) Line graphs are used to show the change in value with time.
d) Pie charts are used to show percentage of a whole.

19. (a) Pictogram
Teach lower primary students about numbers...
(b) Bar Graph
Used to compare an amount with another amount...
(c) Pie Chart
Uses percentage to count an the types of people who board the bus...
(d) Line Graph
To count the increase or decrease in population

20. a) Pictograms are used to make large numbers become simpler to understand.
b) Bar charts are usually used when one needs to compare something with another.
c) Uses most of the time when dealing with money.

d) A line graph is often used to visualize a trend in data over intervals of time.Eg: time when one eats his/her meal.

21. a) Pictograms can be used to allow others (especially young children who likes looking at pictures -.-'') understand numerical numbers in pictures in a simpler way.
b) Bar graphs can be used to compare numbers/infomation with each other.
c) Pie charts can be used to see the percentage comparison with each other. (Compare things, of course, like how much time you have spent on a certain thing in a day...)
d) Line graphs are used for measuring a trend. (Eg: Stocks. Shares. Money related stuff, or plotting experiment graphs)

I have concluded lines/graphs are used mainly (not totally) for comparing trends.
