Chap 16: Data Handling - How are these graphs used in real world situation

With reference to the 4 types of graphs posted by the groups, comment the use of each type of graph. Give an example on how it is used.

E.g. The bar chart shows the sales of the different flavours of a certain brand of instant noodles in a local supermarket in a week, therefore allowing the production manager to decide which flavour to increase in their production. 

Label the parts clearly.

  2. Pictogram: In supermarket, pictogram is used to represent the fruits present on a certain day.

    Bar Chart: In a business company, bar charts are used to represent the sales made by a company or the number of sale products sold.

    Pie Chart: It is normally used to represent different things as part of overall percentage (100%) to see and compare.

    Line Graph: It is mostly used for rise and fall of budget interests and revenues. Also, it can be used for the rate of popularity about something (sometimes movies)

    Used to compare different quantities like sales
    Line Chart:
    Used to monitor progress over time intervals like stocks
    Pie Chart:
    Used to visualise quantitities out of a whole like time spent on activities.

    Pie chart are used when they need to find out the majority or to organize all the items.
    Line Graph to see the companies growth or to get an overview of how someone has progressed

    Line Graphs can be used to show the average attendance of a student ( and compared to the average of the school[at the same time])

    Bar graphs is easy to understand and many values can use bar graphs to show.
    Pie chart is to show ratio and percentage.

  11. Pictogram: To be used for teaching kindergarden and lower primary students maths, graph, with simple pictures easy for them to understand.

    Bar chart: This is used for finding population of a certain area or the amount of things.

    Pie chart: This is used for representing percentage for collecting data from a large group of people.

    Line graph: This is used for stocks where the number keeps rising and falling.

    b) Bar charts are usually used when one needs to compare something with another.
    c) Uses most of the time when dealing with money.

    d) A line graph is often used to visualize a trend in data over intervals of time.Eg: time when one eats his/her meal.

  21. a) Pictograms can be used to allow others (especially young children who likes looking at pictures -.-'') understand numerical numbers in pictures in a simpler way.
    b) Bar graphs can be used to compare numbers/infomation with each other.
    c) Pie charts can be used to see the percentage comparison with each other. (Compare things, of course, like how much time you have spent on a certain thing in a day...)
    d) Line graphs are used for measuring a trend. (Eg: Stocks. Shares. Money related stuff, or plotting experiment graphs)

    I have concluded lines/graphs are used mainly (not totally) for comparing trends.
